Building a Beyond Bullying World
being systematically heart-forward
Today, you can download the seventh segment of the KOAN method as we explore how to build common good solutions that goes beyond “winning the day” to build a beyond-bullying world.
Turning on the TV or scrolling social media can sure make it look like whoever puffs up their chest the biggest and tears down their opponents most loudly gets the prize. But even when they do, it’s not without great costs. And we get to decide if this is the world we want to build.
Early in human history, core survival needs often meant that being bigger and stronger was somewhat better. Whoever could get more (food, shelter, fire, resources, etc.) tended to win the day. Differences were viewed as threats to be avoided or killed off. Physical strength, brute force, or the ability to gather and hoard resources were often the key determinants of who had and could hold onto power.
These models of domination and control certainly don’t serve us in a world where information about anything that anyone does flies across the globe in a nano-second, and where the choices a company or community makes on one side of the world can have ripple effects thousands of miles away. For most people most of the time, winner-takes-all models lead to disappointment and defeat.
